Unnecessary load😑

I started thinking, am I depressed? But then, I remember telling myself “nahhh, that’s not possible. Nigerians don’t get depressed”.

For a certain period, I had a lot of things going on in my life. I really don’t know the best way to describe everything but I will attempt to. (That period will be referred to as “The point” all through this article).

There’s a point where it feels like nothing is happening, like in all aspects. And then there’s this low feeling, really really low feeling that accompanies the point”.

During The point, I felt so down and bad and incomplete and sad and a whole lot of bad bad emotions. Crazy right?

The whole of The point, I was basically struggling, trying to smile on the outside while tearing up on the inside. And then when I got opportunities of having my room to myself, actually tearing up and getting my pillow soaked with tears of frustration. It was terrible!

Trying to balance up various school activities with studying and getting good grades and moving on with my life (Actually, it was a dead end for me). But then, still struggling to maintain my sanity.

Really, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. The worst part was I didn’t know how to express my feelings.

I started thinking, am I depressed? But then, I remember telling myself “nahhh, that’s not possible. Nigerians don’t get depressed”. Forgive me but my society does not recognize depression in any form. Depression 😏- That happens only in books and all. (My opinion prior to this experience). I took a few online quizzes to check my mental sanity and then I got some funny replies. One particular result said I was “suffering from mild to moderate depression”. Okayyy, so it’s not that bad! I’m just a bit depressed 😂😂😂

All of a sudden, I lost interest in some activities, in people and even my best friend (You know who that is right?)

Well, if you do not know – GOD. My father.

You’re probably wondering, where is she going with all this story. Just keep reading please.

It was like I lost a connection, I found it really difficult to pray, worship, talk to Him and do the regular things I used to do.

Then, each day was kinda worse than the previous day. I just wasn’t feeling so good, I started having worries about a lot of things and very weird thoughts started coming in. Thoughts of failing at school, never getting married (😂😂😂 Yes, this happened! I can laugh about this now but mehn, it wasn’t funny.), and then a thought of suicide came in!!! That was the last straw for me! I told my self – (inserts name here), this is really not possible. Wake up and find help for yourself.

So I decided to go back to the One I had intentionally ignored and put in the background. I really felt bad, here was someone who offered to help, but my whole attitude was “You’re not needed, I’m fine all by myself. *flips hair and walks out like a diva😎*

I literally ran back to Him to pray and ask for forgiveness. I remember crying and expressing my guilt but one beautiful thing happened, I was forgiven! Just like that right, yeah!

Then I poured out all what I was going through. I expressed how I felt exactly my fears, my worries and doubts, every single thing. Withholding nothing! And I started getting reminders – How loved I was and how I had no cause to fear- It was a beautiful night! Losing my fears and cares in worship, laying everything down. No worries, no stress, no pain, 100% gain!

Depression, stress, anxiety and the likes are unnecessary problems that we face.

Are you depressed? Stressed? Worried? Broke? Failing at school? Waiting for admission? (I’ll share my personal story one day, Jamb o Jamb🤦) Did you recently lose a loved one🙁? Are you hungry🤧😋? Do you have any other problem, I have not listed?

Just hold on, do not carry unnecessary load! Please don’t. If you can, talk to a trusted person about your problems, could be a friend, a parent, your elder siblings (if you have any), or even your pastor or teenager’s coordinator in church. You could send me an email also, or send a dm on instagram. I’ll be ready to talk.

But first, there’s a very very important thing you have to do. Talk to Jesus!!! Yes, it’s possible. He’s available all the time. 24/7. Just tell it to Him. You’re loved and precious in His sight. Matthew 11:28 says Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. You have the opportunity to rest, but you need to go to Him first, note the first condition – Come. In case you’re wondering why, we were told in First Peter chapter five, verse seventeen to Cast all our cares upon God because He cares for us. God cares about you!!!!

The amazing part remains the fact that He is ever ready. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble – Psalms 46:1

You’re loved! Never forget this. Drop the load you are carrying this instant. You don’t need it!

Knowledge – The real deal!

Matthew 16:13-17 Now when Jesus had come into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he said, questioning his disciples, Who do men say that the Son of man is?
And they said, Some say, John the Baptist; some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
He says to them, But who do you say that I am?
And Simon Peter made answer and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus made answer and said to him, A blessing on you, Simon Bar-jonah: because this knowledge has not come to you from flesh and blood, but from my Father in heaven.

When i was younger I thought I was a Christian. Note the word “thought”. I felt I was a Christian because I was born into a Christian home, attended church services and went to Sunday school. I even prayed, fasted, read my Bible, learnt some Bible verses and on and on. But I missed out something really important. I did not have a personal relationship with God!
Don’t get me wrong here, I was in church! Active to an extent. But, i didn’t establish any space for God to come into my life. I felt service in the Church and all meant I was a Christian. But I was totally wrong. Yes it is right to serve in church, but we need to establish a personal relationship with Christ. I didn’t know that! I had no clue. My life totally changed when I got to know God on a personal level. Remember : I had been in the Church all along.
In the Bible verses above, Jesus asked his disciples who he was to everyone and after they answered him. He asked who they thought he was.
He’s asking you now: Who do you say that I am? Are you serving me based on what people say I am? Or are you serving me because you know me?

Knowledge is power!

Daniel 11:32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

Hosea 4:6 tells us that people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

You need to know who God is to you! You need to have a stand with God so you won’t fall for just anything.
We need to come into the knowledge of God. Know God personally! It’s not an option.
Ephesians 4:13-15 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
We need to have a personal relationship with God so that we will know that which is right. So we won’t be carried away by different false doctrines.

Ephesians 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.

Having knowledge of Christ is great! It’s is a beautiful thing. Knowing how much God loves me makes life easy for me. Knowing that the Redeemer lives makes me happy. Knowing that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me is marvelous.

Philippians 3:8-10 Yes truly, and I am ready to give up all things for the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, which is more than all: for whom I have undergone the loss of all things, and to me they are less than nothing, so that I may have Christ as my reward,
And be seen in him, not having my righteousness which is of the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
That I may have knowledge of him, and of the power of his coming back from the dead, and a part with him in his pains, becoming like him in his death;

Trace your steps back, are you a Christian for the right reasons? Do you know God truly?

Just tell God, I want to know you. I want to know more. Help me Lord. He answers prayers! Rely on God!

May God help us all, Amen.

Letting Go – Oluwakorede Odesanya

This article was originally a session on TIG online group on whatsapp. The Inspiration Group is a platform for inspirational goals set during sessions. Have a great time reading!
Surrendering, Giving up control and some other terms like release, relinquish could all be described as Letting go.

Letting go is a process. A process is defined as a particular course of action intended to achieve a result.

Letting go is a deliberate action. It requires making conscious efforts.

Over the course of this session, we’ll be answering the following questions.

1. What are we letting go of?

2. Who are we letting go to?

3. Why should we let go?

4. What happens when we let go?

5. How can we let go?

C. S Lewis likened letting go to crossing monkey bars, to move forward, you have to let go of one bar to move on to the next.

Letting go is a deliberate action and it could be very very very difficult when we try to do it by ourselves i.e according to the flesh. But, when we walk according to God’s will, by being led by the Holy Spirit, it becomes an easy thing to do.

1. What are we letting go of?

The only answer to this is *Everything*.

Yes, every single thing. We’re to let go of every part of us.

2 Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: *old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.*

We understand that at the point of accepting Christ, we’ve given God control of everything.

Our pain, bitterness, anger, worries, time, every single thing. We have a new story entirely.

2. Who are we letting go to?

The right person to surrender all to is no one else but God. Our maker.

God of course, knows us better than any one. Even our family members, well He knew us before anyone else did. Just like God told Jeremiah in *Jeremiah 1:5  Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations* The same applies to every human being, He made us and he knows what we all need.
3. Why should we let go?

This particular question is what most people ask. What’s the point of letting go?  It’s not like there will be any difference any way? 🤷 I’m fine with the way I am, I don’t really think there’s any need for me to let go or anything like that.

Do not be deceived!!!

I believe that God didn’t create anyone to live a “struggle life”. Whether we like it or not, at a point in time, all things won’t seem all rosy or bright. But there is beauty when even when life seems sour or things are not going right, there’s a way out. There’s this joy in being with God, no worries, no stress.

I cannot come and kill myself (The motto of most Nigerians, myself included 😌) This is the exact reason we should let go, so we don’t kill ourselves. I’m not speaking of literally killing one’s self, but there are little things that just add up and then make life really miserable. Worrying and the likes.

We should let go because that is God’s will for us!  God loves us so much.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Sweet! Really nice
4.  What happens when we let go?
Will there be any difference? 🤔 Just like that things will start happening, really? Does that mean that when I let go, there’ll be no “wahala” or anything like that?  Does letting go mean that life becomes very easy?  No!  Not like that. I’m sorry to burst your bubble but nope. Not just like that.

Jesus Christ came to save the unbelievers…absolutely correct!

So how about the devil?  What’s his plan exactly?  Oh well😟 the devil came for the believers! There are times things happen and you start to wonder, why?!!  My dear, there’s no other reason for mishaps than the fact that you’re a threat to the devil as a believer and so he could try to be funny at times by *trying* to shake us. Note that I didn’t say by “shaking us”, I said by “trying to shake us”. It’s normal for him to try and it’s also a normal thing for him to fail.

Romans 8:37  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Christ that loved us.

By accepting Christ and surrendering to him, we’re victorious because He has won the battle for us.

But also note Romans 8:28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
5. How can I let go?

Matthew 11:28-30  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

This is one of my favorite Bible verses. As I said earlier, Letting go is not easy when we try to do it all by ourselves, but with the help of God, it’s a really easy thing to do.

Surrender all to Jesus Christ. You won’t regret this step.

It doesn’t stop there, Letting go is a conscious effort, be intentional about it. Let go of everything, especially the little thing.

Psalms 61:2  From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Letting go requires not looking back ( remember the story of Lot’s wife) .

No matter what happens, keep moving forward!

Philippians 3:13  Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before.

Letting go requires obedience and trust also. Remember you’re giving up your will to let God’s will be done.

Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

The Bible verse says trust with *all* your heart, not a quarter or half. God demands 100% trust, not 50% or even 99.9%

Are you holding on to pain, stress, unforgiveness probably and so many other things. Tell God to help you, trust me He answers our prayers.
Are you going through trials or struggles?  Let it all go!  Find rest in Christ, He really loves you. Tell God to direct your steps, and teach you what to do.

I pray that God helps us all in Jesus mighty name, Amen. Stay blessed😊

Let’s spread the gospel together!

2018! 2018!! 2018!!!

Check your plans for 2018 if you have one. if you don’t, it’s not too late to create one.

Yesterday (2017)😁, so many of my whatsapp contacts posted updates,  you know the normal end of the year status updates. 95% of my contacts posted.  Gosh,  all them waistbead status people😖😖😖
Most teenagers were posting updates like “2018, more money, more money blah blah, more this more that.”

Majority of my contacts in the adult category posted about thanking God, setting goals for the new year and one particular status update that caught my attention was the one that said “Happy new year, start with Jesus“.

I remembered the many posts about money and other minor things and then I realized that we could get everything  if we are deeply rooted in Jesus. Of course there are so many rich people today that have made it without Jesus but I believe that Jesus is paramount because it is written in Proverbs 10:22 (KJV)  The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

What’s your plan for 2018?

  • To make more money?  Fantastic!
  • To start a business?  Fabulous! Of course the fact that we’re teenagers doesn’t stop us from being entrepreneurs.
  • To make more friends?  Really nice!  Make sure they’re sensible friends sha.
  • To get new gadgets?  Super cool!

I’m sure there are so many other things to add to this list.

But then do not forget the God factor.  Really really really  really really really really important. I could go on with the reallys to emphasise how important God is.

So check your plan for this year,  if you don’t have one it’s not too late to create one.

Ensure that you set clear goals with spiritual backings. I mean take it to the Lord in prayer!!!  1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)  Pray without ceasing.

Then set time for each goal, you could have monthly goals or bimonthly or quarterly. Well, anyone that suits you. Also set time for reviews to see how well you’re doing.

Try to study the book of Proverbs over and over. There are so many words of advice for we young people😎. Last year, I tried to read a chapter per day though I wasn’t really consistent 😶 but I’ve decided to be steady (May God help me).

As Christians, we’re always on duty, it’s a no rest zone oh!  Spread the word of God, help others, give cheerfully and serve God fearlessly.  Happy new year! Have a blessed day, week, month and year!  God bless you. Yass! Today is Monday and its a public holiday.😁💃💃 I’m so glad.

I love you so much for reading this. Once again,  HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

Words Of Mouth

What if as you speak, the words appear on your skin? Would you look beautiful or ugly?A popular Bible verse says ” Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks”. This means that the words we speak matters a lot because they show exactly what we think about. In Matthew 15:17-18, Jesus said :
17 Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body?
18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’
The text above tells us about the gravity of our words. Our words could make us sin, I believe we all know this. It could be a little white lie, or even what we say while joking. When someone provokes you, how do you react? Do you give in to the devil and then rain insults on the person? Of course, we get angry but we also have the power to control our tongue. James chapter 3 tells us a lot about the tongue. The tongue is compared to the rudder of a ship, and we are told that the tongue is a very important part of our bodies.
Proverbs 18:21 says
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
This is so true. We have the power to make positive confessions and also negative ones.
As believers, we are supposed to be different in everything that we do. Our actions and inactions, our speech also should be clean and not vulgar. We are told in Matthew 5:14 that we are the light of the world. Verse 16 of the same chapter instructs us to let our lights shine before men, that they may see our good deeds and praise our Father in heaven. Let our words be those of impact. Not just idle words. Kind words could be good deeds also. We could hurt others by the words we speak, I pray that we all learn how to bridle our tongues.
Do this little exercise: Close your eyes and reflect on all what you have said in the past twenty four hours. Are they words that are meaningless or words that are meaningful ? Are they curses or blessings? Are they vain words or words that glorify God?
If incase, any of your previous words fall in the former category, try as much as possible to avoid such words and also apologize to anyone you hurt in the past with your words. When you’re angry and you don’t have any kind words, just keep quiet. Trust me, you would not regret it. And if your previous words fall in the latter category, keep it up. You also wouldn’t regret it.
So let us try to always make positive confessions. May God bless us all abundantly, Amen. Thank you for reading this article. Kindly share with others. Also follow my instagram page @naijachristianteen Thanks 😊

Just let go

Let go and Let God.

Hello beautiful people, here are a few things to always remember.
“I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?” Jeremiah 38:27
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1st Peter 5:7
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Psalm 46: 10-11
No matter what you’re going through, always remember that nothing is too difficult for God. Do you have any problem? Don’t just talk about it, pray about it also. Tell it to Jesus, he has the solution. God bless you.
